23.01.08 - Fifty days and counting!
With around fifty days to go before his planned Top Fuel Dragster début at Santa Pod Raceway, things are really coming together for Derek Flynn of Eurodragster.com News sponsor Gold RV. "My dream should soon become a reality, providing the weather gods are with us and especially as Easter is so early this year", says Derek.
"Knut Söderquist (Car owner from whom more on Friday - Ed) has already completed most of the chassis updates and moved the pedals and steering wheel to suit me, the car is booked to be re-tagged before the end of the month and is then due to arrive at our workshops by the end of February.
"I would like to take this opportunity to welcome some new team members to the Go Gold Crew. First and foremost we have welcome a new Crew Chief for this year: Ian Pellant, who is really looking forward to leading our team and passing on his years of Fuel experience to the rest of us. Also joining us with Fuel experience are Laurie Bamford and Scotch Rob (Inglis - Ed). Welcome guys, I feel a lot happier that we have your expertise within the team and I am sure we will run all the better for it! Also helping us out for this year is Lee Johnstone of J&W Automotive; whilst he is not new to the team as he has helped us out on occasion when we have nicked him from Bob Glassup's NFAA team. Lee has always had an ambition to work with a Fuel team and with his thirty years in racing we are pleased to have his experience too, and thanks to Bob for loaning him to us.
"Whilst he is not new to the team, John Foster has been our clutch man in waiting for a while now and has always moaned about our Yoghurt Pot (Bruno/torque converter) and has really been missing burning his fingers and getting totally black. So there you go John, the Yoghurt Pot gone and so has the gearbox, fill your boots mate, the hot, dirty black thing is at the back there. The rest of the guys say it is all yours and your licence to go past the motor plate has been officially revoked. King Knut also brings a wealth of knowledge (and parts) to the team as well as Alan Jackson who will be tuning the car. We are delighted to have the opportunity to be working with them both. On truck duties is Mark Bodimeade (aka Animal) who will be driving the rig.
"I would like to thank every one on the crew, past and present, for their dedication, help and support. Without you guys and gals none of this would be possible. With the team looking this strong I am determined to raise my game too. For all those ponytail choppers out there, all bets are officially off for the Five, although I may take charity bids for the Four!"
