09.11.04 - Holley misses out
Also on the subject of Gold RV Racing, if you were tuned
in to Eurodragster News on 12th
October then you will recall that second-generation drag
racer Holley Glassup was due to make licencing passes in Derek
Flynn's current dragster at the Flame and Thunder Show, at
the same time raising money for the NSPCC charity. Holley
didn't get to run at the weekend because of the weather, as
"So close", says Derek. "Twice called to the fire-up road,
all ready to go, but alas it was a no-go! Holley seemed to
take the disappointment better than the team - probably due
to her years of experience - but we did feel for her. Twice
ready to run, and over four hours waiting in the fire up road,
we think she still deserves a great deal of credit for her
attempts and the way she handled it.
"The Glassups have also asked that we pass on our thanks
to everyone who supported Holley, especially Santa Pod Racers
Club and all the Santa Pod race crew and staff who desperately
tried to get Holley to the line, if only to do a sixty foot,
but the mist and drizzle thwarted us all.
"We would like to thank everyone who donated or pledged money
towards our NSPCC fund and we will announce the total raised
soon. Thanks again to the Go Gold crew for all the effort
put in, and commiserations to Gary and Michael who were to
drive the car for the first time at Sunday's RWYB."
